Quality Control New Year's Resolutions

We’re nearly one month into 2018, and I’m wondering just how many people have already given up on their resolutions? How long did you last? One day? One week? You’re not alone! We have many pain points in the fiber optic industry, just like we have in our own lives, that we can never quite seem to overcome. We often make (and break) promises about the same things: weight loss can be likened to streamlining bulky and slow processes with automation, being on time can be related to becoming more reliable and consistent, and getting a grip on finances is similar to controlling increasing labor costs.

End Supply Chain Friction By Changing This One Thing About Your Quality Control Process...

One of the biggest issues in the fiber optic industry is supply chain friction. Manufacturers send their connectors to cable assembly houses, which are then installed in data centers and other locations where they will be re-inspected many times throughout their lifespan. Parts are often returned to manufacturers, because of permanent failures during a customer’s inspection.

Supply chain friction that arises from faulty or returned product occurs for a variety of reasons:

Looking at key benefits of the FastMT fiberscope and a discussion on automated vs. manual optical inspection

Our North American distributor, Fiber Optic Center, wrote an excellent blog recently about the comparison of manual fiber scopes vs. automated fiber scopes. In FOC author Chris Rollinson's words, "'automation' is the holy grail of the fiber optic industry." Chris goes on to explain how FiberQA's FastMT fiber scope can improve upon the quality control process during inspection of fiber optic cable connectors in cable assembly houses.

At FiberQA, we make automation our businees. We believe that manual fiber scopes are the past, while fast, reliable, automated fiber scopes are the future.

3 Ways to Customize Your Fiber Optic Connector Inspection Process

One of the biggest advantages to having a FastMT automated fiberscope, is the ability to customize the settings and parameters of your inspection protocol. Whether you have one system or several, a small team of operators or dozens, you simply have to input the desired parameters and you can rest assured that every connector will be inspected consistently and reliably, regardless of whom is operating which system.

FiberQA showed off auto-inspection + cleaning on MIL-38999 connectors at AVFOP 2016

The jet-lag and daylight savings time change has worn off, but we're still riding high after last week's IEEE Photonics Society hosted AVFOP show in Long Beach, CA! We want to thank the coordinators for putting together yet another exciting and beneficial event. We were able to showcase products and systems to a targeted group of important industry-influencers in the military and aerospace markets.
